Mariah
makes her first post-Rita appearance for Southeast Texas' hockey franchise,
the Texas Wildcatters, on November 18th. Mariah was scheduled to perform the
National Anthem for the team in 2005 on several occasions but Hurricane Rita
had other plans. The team gave way to the ravages of the storm and
cancelled its season so that its home stadium could be used as an emergency
shelter and command post for relief efforts. The team is currently in
4th place in its division, only 2 points behind the division leader.
Mariah hopes to bring her usual good luck to the team during its battle with
the Augusta Lynx.
Mariah participated
again in the "Cowboy Church Experience" at First United Methodist
Church in Pearland, Texas on November 12th. "The
Music Ministry of FUMC is laity involved in being "ministers" in worship
through the power of music and the fine arts. By daily prayer, fellowship and
regular practice we seek to highly develop our God-given talents so as to
offer them as spiritual gifts to the glory of God. With our music and in
conjunction with the interaction of the Holy Spirit we hope to win people to
Christ, grow them into a closer relationship with Him, and serve our Savior in
ways that only music can accomplish. If preaching is the logic of our faith
then music is the heart." Mariah is honored to be a part of such a
ministry and this appearance marks her third this year with Dr. Jerry
Pennington and the wonderful FUMC family.
During
the weekend of October 28-29, Mariah took yet another shot at Hollywood.
At this time, Mariah participated in the "Next Rising Star" showcase.
Mariah performed music, acting and modeling for 24 entertainment industry
executives from Hollywood during the two day event. Mariah received
special recognition during the event for her acting ability, specifically in
the dramatic category. Following the performances, Mariah had the
opportunity to visit and network personally with the industry professionals.
As a result, she may be making yet another trip to Hollywood in the early part
of 2007.
September
24th marks the one year anniversary of Hurricane Rita. Beginning
September 21, 2005, Mariah and family began preparations for the possible
evacuation of their home and did evacuate on September 22nd. Mariah's
home town was seriously damaged from the storm and was without utilities for
almost a month. While the family survived the storm well and suffered no
significant damages, the storm required almost a nomadic existence for a few
weeks and resulted in Mariah's eventual move to the Houston area.
Additionally, the event seriously hampered Mariah's performance schedule.
The year since has, as is usually the case with Mariah, been an interesting an
unexpected trek. As we look back on the year that was, Mariah and family
again offer the most heartfelt gratitude to the many friends who offered
assistance and opened their hearts and homes to us during that trying time.
While Mariah and family are basically back on track and Mariah has returned to
almost a full performance schedule, the effects of the storm remain evident in
many places. We ask that those still suffering from the effects, and
there are many throughout East Texas, remain in your thoughts and prayers.
Mariah will serve as special
guest at the regional finals of the 2006 Colgate Country Showdown on August
23, 2006. The competition will occur at the Lake Theater in Lake
Jackson, Texas.
This year, the Colgate
Country Showdown celebrates its 25th Anniversary. Over the years, it has grown
into the largest country music talent search in America with over 450 local
ratio stations participating, 50,000 artists competing each year and over
$300,000 in cash prizes awarded throughout the 4-level competition. As a
testament to this fact, virtually every major country music entertainer of the
past 20 years has participated in the Showdown. They may not have won the
Grand Prize, but it was often the first time they experienced the thrill of
performing before a live audience. Although not competing this year,
Mariah has twice before been a part of the competition and will enjoy being a
guest performer this year.
Mariah
returned to the Lake Theater on August 26th and served as opening act for
recording artist Jason Allen. Jason is a rising star on the Texas music
scene, receiving national radio airplay and frequently appearing on the Texas
country music charts. Mariah has had the great pleasure of opening for
Jason on several past occasions and always enjoys the chance to share the
stage with him. Photos from the event are available on the Photos page.

Among
the many irons in the fire that Mariah has going is a new DVD. As with
the original, the new DVD will feature several song selections as well as an
updated video. The DVD may also have a surprise or two. Stay tuned
to see when and how to get a copy.
Mariah
made the news again! This time she is featured in Texas Hot Country
Magazine in a photo with Roy Head, Bobby Reed, Tommy Ward and Sundance.
The photo is available on Mariah's In the Press Page.
Thanks to Leon Beck and
Texas Hot Country
Magazine.
Mariah
has been under the weather for a good bit of 2006. She has had a
recurring sinus problem that has impeded much of her performing activities.
However, she has been a trouper through it all and continued to honor her
obligations. As the old saying says, "The show must go on." Mariah
is doing much better and is looking forward to picking up the pace. Stay
tuned to find out when and where "the little girl with big voice" will be
next!.
Ice
was not in play at Mariah's home stage, the Lake Theater, on February 11, 2006.
Mariah served as the opening act for 1960's pop legend Roy
Head. The show was the first of the Lake's ongoing efforts to bring in high
profile performers in addition to their usual stellar programs. Later in
the year, Mariah
will similarly participate in other big name shows.
Mariah's
scheduled return to the Johnnie High Country Music
Show in Arlington, Texas on February 18, 2006 was put on ice, literally.
Dallas-Fort Worth experienced a hard freeze, complete with a little snow and a
lot of ice during the weekend. As a result, Mr. High cancelled the show.
Rescheduling is taking place now so check back soon for the update.
Mariah
returns again to her home stage, the Lake Theater, on February 11, 2006.
On this trip, Mariah will serve as the opening act for 1960's pop legend Roy
Head. The show is one of the Lake's ongoing efforts to bring in high
profile performers in addition to their usual stellar programs. Mariah
is excited to be a part of the effort. Mariah has previously opened at
the Lake for a number of such performers.
Mariah
returns to the Johnnie High Country Music
Show in Arlington, Texas on February 18, 2006. This occasion will be Mariah's
first since early 2005. Mariah has appeared at the world famous theater
on many past occasions and is always appreciative of the opportunity to
perform at the stage that made LeAnn Rimes famous.
Mariah's
2006 calendar is beginning to fill up. Included already are several
appearances at new locations as well as many old favorites. Also, as
usual, Mariah has a few new tricks up her sleeve. Stay tuned to find out
when and where you can see those tricks in 2006.
MariahStanley.Com summed up
2004 with the phrase, "What a year!" 2002 was good, 2003 was great,
2004 was so much more, but 2005 was surreal. Following on the heels of a
breakout year, 2005 seemed like the year that stars would align.
However, early 2005 saw Mariah suffer from medical setbacks (back) that led to
the need to take off for some much needed rest. Then, just as the
medical situation came under control, Mother Nature lost control. After
dodging Hurricane Katrina, Southeast Texas felt the wrath of Hurricane Rita in
September. The devastation caused Mariah and family to take to the road
again, although this time not for performing, and the loss/cancellation of a
number of shows. After two months of hopping about from place to place,
divine intervention occurred and the family found a new home in Atascocita.
While the original Buna home survived the storm well, the new home brought new
opportunities for Mariah and family (as well as a much shorter trip to many
venues). Now that life has returned to normal and Mariah has rested up,
she intends to crank up the volume in 2006. She has many shows already
scheduled, is undertaking some additional training, and "the song" that has
been discussed so much on the website will finally be released. As
always, Mariah realizes that none of
her past or future successes could be possible, however, without the support of many
friends, fans, family and, most importantly, her Heavenly Father, especially
in light of the events of 2005. As always, stay tuned.
